When did you travel to Cambodia?

September, 2014.

Which areas of Cambodia did you visit?

Unfortunately this was just a quick trip, and only touched on Siem Reap.

Why did you go to Cambodia?

I was living in Thailand at the time, and needed to leave the country in order to renew my visa. I had always wanted to visit Angkor Wat, and so decided to visit for a couple days during my trip out of Thailand.

How did you get to your final destination?

As I said, I was living in Thailand at the time. That area of South East Asia is extremely well connected by buses and trains for backpackers to get around, and any tourist area has a booking office on nearly every block. I simply walked into one of these offices and told them that I wanted to visit Siem Reap. They arranged everything, and simply told me where I needed to be and at what time. From there my friends and I were given stickers and herded from one bus to the next, based on our stickers. It was a slow and tedious journey, but it was the cheapest way to travel. If you are pressed for time and have a higher budget, flying is also an option.

What advice do you have for someone visiting Cambodia?

As I was only there for one full day, my advice is limited. The first thing I have to say is go ahead and hire a tuk tuk driver for the day that you want to visit the temples. They are used to driving tourists around the all the top spots, and might even hit a few that you were unaware of. The second piece of advice I have is DO NOT exchange your money. The Cambodian riel is worth so little that no one will exchange any leftover back again at the end of your stay. US dollars, Thai baht, and Vietnamese dong are all widely accepted.
